The Crazy Quilt Journal

I participated in the Crazy Quilt Journal Project 2012 and I decided that the crazy quilt block made each month would accompany and wherever possible highlight the events which were my life in 2012.
All the pages were stitched into a fibre journal of 2012. I recycled fabric from laundry bags for the pages and the fabric of a pair of lightweight denim trousers was used to make the cover. Cardboard from cereal boxes were sandwiched between the pages to give better shape to the pages and most of the fabrics and embellishments were from my stash or my mum's stash. Its amazing how much you can find in your home if you set out to look around.
The pages and the covers have a raw edge. The raw edge has become a signature of my work. It features in my scarves too.
The page for July.
This one is for August. I tried to keep up with the TAST challenge in an informal manner and incorporated a stitch I found interesting into the Crazy Quilt block or the journal page from time to time.
September.
I've started making fibre books in 2008 and the Crazy Quilt Journal Project counts as my fifth fibre book.
Each fibre book is unique and has a special meaning for me.
There will be yet another fibre book created in 2013. Its going to be a fibre book page swap based on a theme which I hope will start next month.

Here are the links to the individual pages in the Crazy Quilt Journal Project 2012 if you'd like a more detailed look.

The Take it Further fibre book, the two volumes of Take a Stitch Tuesday and the fibre book on Leaves  are on show at Madder Moon in Singapore through February so if you happen to be there go leaf through these fibre books.

October, November and December CQJP

Hello I'm back. In the time I spent with my family I got the CQ blocks done for October, November and December.
The fabrics are practically vintage. They are from my mum's stash of bits and pieces leftover from the clothes she stitched for my sister and me. So many memories these bits of patterned fabric evoke.
The October block.
The November block.
The December block.

So I've completed the CQJP ( Crazy Quilt Journal Project) challenge and made 12 CQ blocks. One for every month of  the year. All twelve will eventually be uploaded and available for viewing here.

I'm putting the blocks together to create a fabric journal of 2012. Some work left on that project but it will be shown here first.

The show for Indian Design at Madder Moon, Singapore was a resounding success. I sold three of my scarves, my fibre books were exhibited for the first time and there were enquiries if they were for sale and they were written about here - so exciting.
The rest of the scarves will continue to be available for sale at Madder Moon, so please tell family and friends if they are are in Singapore or travelling there, to go visit and get an insight into Indian Design.

What exciting fibre/fabric challenges and swaps have you registered for in 2013? I'm hoping there's going to be a fabric book page swap on Stitchin Fingers which I can participate in. Please point me to any other such event which is still open for registration which I possibly missed while I was without internet access for three weeks

Merry Christmas and a fantastic 2013 to all who drop by.

July CQJP

Its been two weeks since I last updated this blog.( That does sound like I'm at confession).
Its been a bit crazy since we started building a house in the hills and the craziness will continue for atleast the next 9 months I think.
Work schedules have got disrupted but I have managed to make seven CQ blocks by August, Whoohoo that's an achievement and it feels good.
The modem gave up and its taken four days for a replacement and right now blogger won't allow me to upload pictures! Anyone else facing this problem? Lets hope its not going to take another day or two before this post gets published.

The Crazy Quilt block for July.

The journal page for July.
The monsoon has finally set in, it rains every evening and the weather is cooler.
The festival season in India is about to start.
Happy Onam to all those who celebrate.

I'm inspired ...I say!

The muse seems to have deserted me but I've showed up and put needle to cloth. Yet, the last pages of the fibre book are incomplete. A week of embroidering telephone numbers with a single strand of thread leaves the 4"x6" page looking incomplete. There's a million stitches on that page already.
The weather is all grey and dull and I have a dry cough.Priya speaks of the healing qualities of black pepper and ginger and I take to brewing and drinking copious quantities of ginger tea. Changes occur. The cough abates ,I'm hooked on black pepper and ginger tea and the last 4"x6" page stares back at me - blank. Ok I'm inspired to use some red ribbon on the page but there's something lacking.
I decide to take a break for a day and step away from my work to indulge the senses and come back refreshed. Click here to see what made me laugh until I had a stitch in my side and here , as well as here for what tantalised my taste buds.

I gave my credit card a bit of a work out and acquired some Putumayo music which I'm listening to as I type out this post and two books.Chicken with Plums by Marjane Satrapi and a collection of short stories entitled Death Dines In.
So much promise. The skies darken and there is promise of a heavy downpour.I must brew some black pepper and ginger tea and settle down to work - I feel little wings of inspiration stirring.
Where did you find inspiration the last time you went looking?
